About
Lexington Massachusetts based, by way of Seoul, Vancouver BC, Queens New York, Los Angeles and Portland Oregon; Esther Sohn Jun is a Mixed Media Artist and Corporate Art Consultant working with local and international artists to fulfill the needs of the corporate and residential client. She has qualifications in Art History, Studio Art, and Interior Design and has over 15 years of Interior Design and Art Consulting experience with past work in the high end residential, corporate, hospitality, healthcare, entertainment, tech, and public space environments.
As an Artist, she is influenced by the beauty of murals and street art she was surrounded by during her formative years in Queens and Bronx NY in the 90s. She loves the temporal, desperate, expressive and excessive quality about the art form. She is also heavily inspired by the natural world - imprinted from endless childhood days examining and playing in the forests near her home in Vancouver BC. She explores the marriage of raw and natural elements with gestural, emotive, urban inspired markings.
Juxtaposing the quiet and the loud, still and motion, sparse and dense is a direct reflection of who she is as a dichonomic human being. Juxtaposing highlights the beauty.
She uses the emotional experience of growth in many of her works. All aspects of growth - personal, societal, cultural, environmental - is something that she feels introspective about when she makes art. The emotional experience of the process of growth - pain, loss, faith, hope, restlessness - are brought into her work through landscapes using a variety of textures, colors and mediums. She is passionate about exploring textural nuances and spacial dynamics through her work to express these landscapes.
